What is the hardest race you have ever run OR your toughest challenge in running and why
The JFK 50 mile race 2016 was my hardest most challenging race. Mentally, I needed to get past the doubts I had that I could actually run farther than I had ever run during training…to complete the equivalent of nearly two marathons all in one day!! Mentally, I had to get past the doubts that I might not be able to run trails as good as the next person. Physically, I had to overcome the challenges of nutrition and my body’s negative response to what I was feeding it. Physically, I had to just keep ticking the miles off in the best way my muscles knew how. Finishing was my only option and that is was I kept my mind on.
Successfully finishing the hardest, most challenging race has also made this the most rewarding one!! Would I accept this challenge again? Absolutely!!
What is your worst training habit
My worst training habit should actually be my best habit. I am the worst at taking the time to stretch before and after my runs! I am trying to change this but as we all know... old habits die hard. Recovering from an injury has taught me how valuable stretching can be!
What is your most proudest running moment?
My most proud running moment
was when I learned I had qualified for THE Boston Marathon after running The Rocket City Marathon in 2014. I finished the race with a PR time of 3:51:54 (which I have now taken 20 minutes off of) and was completely excited about it and completely unaware of the possibility that I had qualified for one of the most known races in the running world! As I was celebrating my PR post race I received a text from a friend that congratulated me on a BQ. I had to look it up myself before I could believe it and then of course I had to share it with everyone!!
