What is your favorite race, and why?
I love the Oak Barrel Half because we make it a family affair to drive up to Lynchburg. My wife and I love to run and we make an effort to expose our kids to healthy activities. There is always a Huntsville contingent and a picnic lunch afterwards.
I do have to mention that my all-time favorite race, although not running, was an inline-skating marathon in Italy from Maranello through Modena to Carpi – an amazing skate through the countryside and Pavarotti’s birthplace that starts at the Ferrari plant.
What is your favorite product at Fleet Feet, and why?
Endurolytes. I use these all the time before training runs and during races to get all the needed electrolytes. I never forget them on the hotter/humid days when I know I sweat a lot. I also can’t do without the Addaday roller that I use regularly during training periods.
I’m not sure I want to admit this, but one of my favorite pieces of gear is the women’s Fitness Fox headband. For races and training runs on colder, windier days, I find it is perfect because it is light-weight and just enough to keep cold wind off my ears. I’ve even used it as a gaiter before on a colder day
What is the hardest race you have ever run, and why OR what has been your toughest challenge in running, and why?
Mt. Mist 2016. I had heard this is a hard race anyway, and it was my first ultra. When I ran it in 2016, ice covered all the trails. Of course, I fell hard on my tailbone 45 seconds into the race - landing on a sheet of ice - and then didn’t fall the entire rest of the race.
What is your favorite quote
“Stop stealing my running days!” - my wife, Ashley. Because we alternate running in mornings and sometimes I try to steal her days, usually unsuccessfully.
