What are your favorite shoes, socks, and nutrition for running?
Favorite Shoes - Mizuno (Catalyst and Sayonaras currently)
Favorite Socks - Swiftwick (wear for running, cycling, and for work)
Nutrition - Honey Stinger waffles and chews, GU, and Nuun for hydration
What has been your most interesting race experience (give details)?
I have two with one really being a post-race experience. My most interesting race experience was New York City Marathon in 2013. I was walking through the expo in NY in 2012, after Hurricane Sandy, when they canceled the race. So I went back to run in 2013. The crowds and support that year were amazing. Except when we were crossing bridges, where spectators were not allowed to go, the crowds along the course were 5-6 deep almost the entire course. Hearing the roar of the crowds as you came off the bridge after hearing only sounds of shoes on the bridge is something I will never forget. I was even interviewed by a local NY TV station as I walked back out of the park at the finish.
My other most interesting race experience was a post-race experience. I had finished Boston in 2013 and was headed back to the hotel when the bombs went off. The next day and a half were surreal. I will also never forget those days or the week that followed.
What is your proudest running moment?
My marathon PR at Twin Cities in 2:38:34 and finishing 2nd in 3 marathons (but never first, though)
What is your favorite quote, and why
“And when I run I feel His pleasure” - Eric Liddell (Chariots of Fire)
Man of God, Family Man, Running Man, Working Man - in that order. I have been a runner since 3rd grade and have concentrated on the marathon distance since 1995 with 33 marathons completed since then. I have a wonderful wife, Elizabeth, and two teenagers, Matthew and Rebekah who put up with my running shenanigans. In 2016, I have also been re-selected for Team Nuun and selected to be a FitFam Ambassador.
