Short Term Goals
First and foremost, get my 20th Mountain Mist finish. I have a big goal this year of competing in the historically rich 6-day race. If all goes well (i.e. scheduling works out) I will be running as far as I can in a 6 day "go as you please" race in Anchorage, Alaska in August...just like the old "pedestrians" of the late 1800s. Crazy yes, but it represents the most historic ultra race (except maybe Spartathlon).
Long Term Goals
Keep clicking off Mountain Mist finishes. Do several more multi-day races...now that I have a bit more time as the kids are getting older and leaving the nest. Keep enjoying and promoting the healthy lifestyle of running AND smiling as much as I can.
Eating Oatmeal Raisin Cookies, Little Rosie's and listening to Up This Hill and Down by the Osborne Brothers
I have been running competitively for over 30 years (ultramarathons for almost 25 years) and while I cannot stride out like I once could, I still enjoy the camaraderie of competition. Being raised in a rural farming community by my hardworking grandparents certainly shaped me into the person I am today. Thanks to their instilling the heritage of a hard work ethic and Dink Taylor's influence on me to channel my energy into ultras, I have both wanted to thank them and strangle them at the same time :). Work hard, smile often, thank volunteers, and always be gracious in your endeavors.
